I attempt to do an 8-minute meditation each day after my readings and reflection. 8-Minute Meditation is book and series of techniques that I used to get started meditating and still use as a basis today. For whatever reason I have never had an interest in doing longer ones and find this time period suits me fine. Do whatever works for you; but I would encourage some period for this daily, even though I know it can’t always be done. On those time-limited days I at least do a few readings and prayers.
I do silent, unguided meditations, usually based on breathing/breath focal-point, sound and also body sensation. If my head is especially busy I use words, feelings, images, emotions on my in and out breaths – good/positive in, and negative out. I will combine techniques as necessary to hold back the flood of ever-interrupting thoughts.
